Lyon Gilbert (B.A., B.C.L, LL.B, C.Arb. and C.Med.) is a seasoned ADR professional who brings a solid background of legal experience as well as ADR skills to assist in the settlement of disputes. Known for his principled, relaxed and adaptive approach to the mediation and arbitration process, Lyon has conducted thousands of mediations and adjudicated thousands of disputes.

Lyon was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1974 and until a number of years ago practiced as a specialist in civil litigation in all areas of the law. He is now retired from the active practice of law devoting his full energies to alternative forms of dispute resolution. He was appointed in 1985 as a Deputy Judge in Small Claims Court (Ottawa) and continues to judge there.

He is both a Chartered Mediator (C.Med.) and a Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb.) granted by the ADR Institute of Canada Inc. He is a Roster Mediator with the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program - Ottawa and Toronto. He is a Roster Mediator, with the General Insurance OmbudService (GIO) mediating disputes between policy holders and their insurers; and a Roster Arbitrator with Tarion arbitrating disputes between new home builders and Tarion over warranty matters.

Lyon has chaired and presented at various legal continuing education programs. He is currently a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the County of Carleton Law Association. He also is a member of the ADR Institute of Canada Inc. Lyon is the Principal of Out of Court™.
